Chicken TV, How do you watch ?

Sometimes I sit on the patio with them. That's probably my favorite. Sometimes I garden with them. They are very helpful.

Sometimes I watch them through the window, when they're busy doing something and don't notice me. Other times I talk to them through the window. Sometimes I watch them in the coop on the web cam, where I get to see how they live without me as a distraction. Sometimes I take them for a walk. I enjoy all forms of Chicken TV!

OK, I'll admit it. When it's -20 out and there are hip deep drifts, the web cam is my favorite! Although, I have been known to sit on the patio in a parka.

I sit in my chicken-watching chair in the run, sometimes with treats, sometimes not. All the outdoor cats come over, too, and sometimes the chickens go after them a bit, and they back away, all but one. He likes to run at them to see them scatter and will bat at them, without claws, when they peck at him. But he never chases them with malicious intent. Sometimes my Boston Terrier is there, too, and he retreats if he sees a chicken advancing! It's hard to leave them and go do things that need doing.

In the winter, I sit on the log stump I put in their run. They climb on with their poopy feet and sit down for the warmth.

In the summer, after work, we sit in the lawn chairs and watch them. They're so pretty when the setting sun shines on their golden feathers.

I love letting the chickers out after we get home from work. We also let our cats out, and the neighbors dogs all come to hang out with us too. It's very warm and friendly. The cats play bowling for chickens unless they're chasing one of the dogs. It's pretty neat and very relaxing. Especially if I'm laying in my hammock!!

Every morning before I get ready for work I take a cup of coffee and sit at my little patio I made not three feet from the run and coop, complete with table, chairs, umbrella and ashtray and just spend a quiet, relaxing and entertaining 15 minutes or so before I head off to the "jungle".

Hehehehe.... those are all such cute versions. No wonder everyone gets chickens!

We wait until hubby gets home and he comes in and grabs the daughter up. We all go out on the deck and let everyone out of the run for the evening. Within minutes my husband has my daughter down on the ground with them with whatever left overs we have from dinner.

Nothing like seeing everyone so happy, and everyone enjoying my cookin'.

The chickens on my Chicken TV raced right up to a squirrel to face off with the little twerp! I loved that particular show last night.

Other than the squirrel episode, I just love watching their antics, interaction with each other, seeing them steal tomatoes  from my garden, etc... So fun!

We let our girls free-range, so when I get home from work everybody meets me at the car - 2 dogs, 2 cats & 10 chickens. They all follow me to the house wanting a treat. A couple of the girls sit on a patio table on our porch and look in at me thru the kitchen window. When I come back out with a treat, they all crowd around me. The chickens are faster than the cats and will steal any treats that I toss to them. They can do some serious damage to a bowl of leftover chicken & dumplins!

I've got a folding beach chair inside the run, and we have two chairs outside, so when I take them their treats, sometimes I'll stay in with them, and sometimes my BF and I pull up the chairs and hang out. Sometimes in the evenings, they will get up on the perches nearest to where we're sitting and settle down. They don't do this if we're not there--they use the farther perches in the corner.

And the cats like Chicken TV, too! And vice versa! Jiro, heap big jungle cat (in his dreams!), still keeps hurling himself at the fence, hoping he'll somehow make it become permiable, but it always tosses him back, and he slinks off in a funk. The chickens have come to find this terribly entertaining. They know enough to stay away from the wire if a cat is hanging around.

Our cat seems to know when we want extra entertainment. He doesn't normally chase the chickens, but when we are out there watching CTV, he will stalk and chase a chicken several times until the rooster, Sue, gets fed up and chases him back! Then he runs to the house, lays down and watches for the next chance to get the chickens to chase him. He's tried to get the dogs to chase him but they are not interested in the game.
