Chicken waterer

What kind of chicken waterer do ya'll prefer? I'm a newbie at chicken keeping. Only had chickens a few weeks. I have a galvanized metal waterer hung for my chickens. There's damp shavings on the floor every morning.

Nipple water fountains help keep them from catching coccidiosis.

I like the horizontal version and make my own from food grade lidded buckets.

Yes, if you want clean water 24/7. Get the horizontal nipples from amazon. You need an 11/32 drill bit to make the hole and leave 2 - 3 threads showing when you screw it in to the bucket. Do not screw them all the way in.

I use either the galvanized waterers, up on blocks, or the plastic waterers from Premier1supplies.com.

Nipple waterers, if fitted correctly, should have little leakage. Currently using vertical ones for my hens, and the chicks are almost tall enough to switch over. The water stays clean and debris free and there's no wet litter to worry about.

I've been concerned that there won't be adequate access to water for my birds using nipple waterers. Too many birds /nipple, and some birds will be thirsty.

In hot places it is 3-4 birds per nipple.

Mine to fine here and it is hotter and dryer than michigan
