CHICKEN WITH BLACKHEAD DISEASE please help !!

https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/resources-you/blackhead-disease-poultry#:~:text=Birds with blackhead disease are,few days after signs appear.

Unless the treatment you mentioned is recent, I'm not sure one can argue with the FDA...? I mean, i believe you, but just saying. I don't have anything but metronidazole but I will start my hen on that. I already treated her with Safeguard for three days. I would have to order the enrofloxacin, and I'm not sure she will last long enough for me to treat her with that. I learned that Oregano Oil can be very effective as a treatment or preventative. I do have that and will add it to the flock's waterers as hopefully a preventative. I only have one sick hen, but i'm sure it's Blackhead or liver disease.
I don't think you understand... The FDA says there are no approved treatments for "food animals." That is true, and it's true because two of the drugs needed to treat it are prohibited for use in poultry.

Metronidazole is an effective treatment for the histomoniasis part of the disease process. The secondary E. coli infections must be treated with a strong antibiotic like enrofloxacin.

Actually i do have some Enroflaxacin (Baytril) left...but I 'm surprised it's available anywhere anymore. Here you can't even get it through a vet.

It's available everywhere with & without a prescription, even in Ohio. ;)

Without prescription:

How much does your hen weigh?

She weighs about 2 lbs. And thats weird. I got chewed out by a vet once when i told her i used Baytril and was told " thats completely illegal and where did you get it?" I just said i had it leftover. But the source where i usually got it in the past cant get it anymore either. I have the liquid 10 %. So what would the dose be?

Some vets are very anti-enrofloxacin in poultry, and some will prescribe it.

For a 2-pound hen, I would give 0.14 ml orally twice a day.

OK, i will try. She is hard to catch in her hospital pen and I don't want to move her to a smaller one, I'm so worried about her contaminating more areas. I have no one to help me most of the time. I'll see what I can do.

how can you tell if your chickens have blackhead?? I hope your hen gets better!
Thank you. She started acting very lethargic, won't eat much, drooping wings, ruffled feathers. I can't tell about her droppings because I haven't seen any, so I'm guessing she has diarrhea. She's a black hen anyway, but now more black is coating her face and beak, it covers more every day. And her comb is lined with black which is also increasing. I am so worried because this is a very contagious disease and we have peafowl and chickens. We've had poultry twenty years and I have never seen this, but I read that it is becoming more common in chickens because of contributing weather conditions....hot, rainy weather, which we've had for at leasr part of the summer.

Oh no! I’m so sorry it’s so hard when a chicken gets sick
