Chicken with egg shell stuck in vent!!! I NEED HELP NOW!!!!!!!

Is it possible she's actually just hot? If it's cold outside and you now have her in warm room all the time, she may be experiencing heat stress. I live in a place where nights can be 32 F and days 80 F in the spring, and those days are def hard on my birds.

How often should I give calcium?
Twice a day is the normal dosage, but others will know if you can give it more often in this circumstance.

Ok thanks! I called my dogs vet and they said they have something called red rubber catheter. They asked what size I need and I have no clue.
Here is a link about tube feeding and sizes. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...ng-guide-pictures-under-construction.1064392/

You can always use a smaller size.

Awesome! Thanks! now the issue is how and what do I tube feed her? I have a 14 Fr/Ch feeding tube, catheter.

I would just do liquids for now. In step three on the link I sent you, it talks about how much fluid to give. Gatorade, Pedialyte, Powerade would be good. They have sugar for energy, and salts and potassium that help facilitate the absorption of water.

You want to get her hydrated. Giving food when a bird is dehydrated can harm them. Also with issues like this, giving food can potentially cause more problems if she is still blocked up at all.

Ok great info thanks! I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your help! I would be in a world of hurt without you! Also what did yall think of her poo?

Tube feeding supplies can be hard to find sometimes. Walmart may have some syringes big enough. TSC would be another place for syringes. 50ml are ideal, but smaller would better than nothing. I would call them first and see if they have it. If they do, they may set it aside for you at their counter.

For tubing, you can use aquarium tubing in a pinch. That you can get at a pet store, probably walmart too. You just need to make sure you melt the ends so it is not sharp. Any supple bendable tubing will work. It just can be too stiff or it cause damage.

I hope she makes it.
If you have an equine vet around they should be able to see you a large syringe or even a 50ml insemination syringe

Ok for sure thanks! I was able to get a bunch of fluids down her and her crop had a good amount of liquid and some mealworms in there. I gave her the sav a chick electrolytes and probiotics and vitamin C and calcium. In an hour and 20 mins I'll give her more antibiotics

You are a great human. You are trying so hard to save her I hope she pulls thru. She is very lucky! I love this site a lot of great people willing to help out in times like these. They understand what it is like to love a chicken. You and your bird have been in my thoughts all day. I am glad you both are still holding on.
