I ended up splitting it in half and putting it back in the capsule. She does not look well and hasn't really eaten or drank anything I think. I did put some water in her beak after the pill and she swallowed some. She kinda feels warm and is breathing hard with her beak open slightly. I looked at her vent this morning and I don't see anything. There is poop in the cage but I also have another hen in there for company. The other hen keeps dumping the water and is kinda being trouble. I will keep her in there if yall think I should, because Karen, the chicken with the issue seems to find comfort in a friend. But I also then can't tell what poop is what ad will have to keep changing wet shavings. You can open the capsule and divide the powder in half. Then take half and combine it with a small amount of cream cheese or cat food pate, even scrambled egg, but not too much that she won’t eat it all. My chickens will always take those and even liverwurst which are great for hiding meds.
HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!!!
I could pick up a different calcium. How often should I give her calcium? Oh also I found very very old tums in a bag in my medicine cabinet. Should I give her one?I will be headed out for an appointment soon. Should I pick anything up from TSC? I have plenty of amoxicillin to last me a while with this girl, but is there anything else I should grab?
Will do! I'll be moving the hen out right now and probably calling my dogs vet for the tubing kit. I will most certainly get the calcium! I cannot thank you enough for your help! Should I give her tums?I advise removing the other chicken. Your girl is too sick to desire company, and it's likely stressing her needlessly.
At this stage of a crisis, where the patient is declining, I intervene with tube feeding fluids. This is critical for maintaining her organ function. Dehydration is going to push her over the edge.
So, try to find tubing and a syringe to fit it. You can get a kit from most vets for just a few dollars. We will instruct you how to tube.
Stop by walmart and get the calcium I posted a photo of in an earlier post. Calcium citrate with D3.
