Hello,
Hiya, we've got a very poorly chicken and our vet doesn't know how best to treat her (he's not a specialist avian vet), so we wondered if anyone might have any idea. There's a pic below.
Just after we bought her (we've had her about 3 weeks) we noticed she had a runny eye and a very hot, puffy ankle that she couldn't put much weight on, so we took her to the vet who said she'd got an infection and gave her Tylan for 5 days.
That cleared up her eye and made her ankle marginally better (there's no sign of any wound but there was still some infection in there).
Two days ago we noticed one of her eyes was crusting over so we took her back to the vet who suggested switching her antibiotic to Baytril. Yesterday both eyes were crusted up and she seems to have lesions around her eyes which look to me (from looking online) a bit like Fowl Pox. But with Fowl Pox it seems they get scabs on their heads and legs too which she doesn't have.
I've bathed her eyes with saline and they can open a tiny slit, but then they crust over again. The farmer we bought her from says it could be mites (some of his other birds had runny eyes but he denies this) and suggested using Invermectin, which we've just bought.
Have you ever seen anything like this before? Any help would be massively appreciated.
