Chicken with no legs??

I think he'd be better off in a more protected area because he can't get away from predictors. Also, he's become such good friends with my dogs, I don't I'd know if he'd even try to get away from my neighbor's pitbulls (if they get loose and come "visit") or the foxes that live on my property. I just don't think he'll be able to fend for himself like the rest of my chickens.

Chicken booties.. Good idea! I'll have to check it out.

He's doing well, thanks for asking. I brought him out to the barn to visit the other day.. I don't think he was happy to be out there. He hid in a corner and had that "pick me up" look. I brought him back in the house and he seemed happy. The good news is that my fiancé said he can be a house chicken! I thought it would be better for him to be outside but he seems happier inside. I'll have to play it by ear and see what's better for him once he heals.

Thanks for letting us know. I think you have a very nice dh to be and I think with Fred's disability the house is the best place for him, although on nice warm days he like having a bit of outside time in a secure setting. He looks like a very special rooster.

Funny story.. Today somebody came to my house, the dogs barked as they always do when they hear somebody coming to my door, Fred joined them with a very quiet crow. As soon as they saw who it was and stopped barking, Fred stopped crowing. I now have 2 watch dogs and a watch rooster.. LOL

Hi! I have a chicken with two crippled legs. I was going to euthanize her but she didn't seem unhappy. I've had her for 8 months now and she has a chair and a basket she sits in. Right now she is on the couch with me watching me type. I go back & forth on whether she needs to be euthanized..... but until she acts depressed and is truly unhappy I cannot do it! She is a house chicken and I also have two others. One has two stubs for legs because her feet froze off, & the other is blind scissor-beak. Both are 2 years old. The best set-up I've come up with for a house chicken is a pack-n-play with the natural corn cobb kitty litter or wood chips. I just scoop it out like a big litter box daily and each of my chickens have a pack-n-play. I have two FB friends who also have chickens who cannot walk, and one of them has a chicken wheel chair.... so you are not alone.

I am so glad there are people like you willing to go the extra mile for our feathered friends. So many people look at them as "just chickens", but to us they are far more.

This is so great, who knew there were so many out there. Frosty doesn't feel so alone now. I love your basket that you have, I've been trying to figure out how to make something for her to perch on but couldn't. I will be making something like that for her asap.
