Chicken with prolapsed vent, need help quick!

hello everyone, last night I️ realized my chicken was trying to lay an egg but she had a prolapsed vent! It took a long time of soaking her and trying to get the egg out, and the problem was that the egg was cracked. But finally, as a last resort, we used a syringe to suck out the inside of the egg and carefully got the egg out. Luckily it only came out in 2 pieces and there was nothing left inside. We cleaned her off the best we could but there was still a little bit of poop stuck to her.
She is a young Ayem cemani that I️ bought this year and I️ believe this must have been her first egg.

Right now she is in a plastic tub and she likes to perch so I️ have a small branch in there for her which she likes. I️ have some food and water in there for her but she doesn’t have too much of an intrest for them. She’s having a lot of trouble pooping. The prolapse has gone in most of the way now but her poop has blood in it and she seems to be very backed up but can’t get rid of much. She has a lot of poop that’s all on her butt that is still pretty wet, but I️ can’t get it off, even when I️ soak her in warm water for 20 minutes. I’ve been trying my best to clean her often but I️ can tell that it takes a lot of effort for her to try to poop and she doesn’t get much progress. Im very worried that she will have to lay another egg. I’ve been putting coconut oil on her. I’m really worried about her and I️ don’t want her to be in pain.
I️ have to go out of town in a few days and I️ have a relative that should be able to care for her, but I’m just not sure how long she will make it. She’s very strong and seems to be handling it quite well ( she still grooms herself and perches) but I’m still just not sure how long she will make it. Any suggestions would be very helpful!

Ok, first, I've never personally had to deal with a vent prolapse. But, in doing a lot of research before I got chickens and knowing some stuff about vet med/med in general, I've learned how to generally treat it/supportive care.

The baths are great, keep doing that. The most important thing is to keep the area clean. Right now there is probably swelling. What you want to do is to manually (with rubber gloves and lube) rub Preparation H on her vent and even try to push it back in the best you can. I would also suggest rubbing some antibiotic ointment because of the bloody poop. Bloody poop in this case might mean that the cracked egg might have scratched the inside. To prevent infection from the bacteria in there and to prevent sepsis, this is why it good be a good case to use an antibiotic. You have also rub some iodine in the vent to further prevent infection.
Keep her in a dark box (maybe have a red light because this doesn't register as sunlight to them) to prevent her from laying anymore eggs.
Also, give her electrolyte water.

my New hampshire red , big red girl at one year old had the same problem she prolapse after laying jumbo eggs , but the day i saw what was going on , my instinct was that she needed to move to get that egg out,so i let her run around ,in their small fenced in yard and she got rid of the poop, and at that same time she got rid of the egg that was really stuck , i kept her in my kitchen and to watch her for like around 2 to 3 weeks i had at the same time stopped her from laying any more eggs so she could heal ,i did that by keeping her in my dark laundry room & fed her just a bit of scratch & tuna water ,you do that to stop them from laying you feed them much less food and never feed they any layer feed at all , do this until they stop laying , i did this right away and so the next day she didn't lay any egg, and no eggs for 2 or 3 weeks but i kept her in semi darkness to stop her eggs and giving her body time to heal, they need time to heal up and the most important is to give these hens with prolapse to help them so they never have a prolapse ever again ,i gave her a very good calcium supplements its the very best for this purpose , i bought it on line & this special calcium supplement really helped her to heal well and to never ever prolapse egg ever again , but also a prolapse can start with the hen becoming dehydrated & are low on calcium , even if that seems impossible , getting fluids into them , i fed my hen canned tuna fish water and later i gave her bits of tuna but its important to give them a hi quality calcium supplement ,that always helps them , plus i gave my hen vit E & vit C supplements crushed up in her mashed hard boiled egg & the VIT C should have BIOFLAVENOIDS in it..! to help build the elastic PROPERTIES OF THE SKIN , add supplements into mashed up hard boiled egg & gave her bits of fish protein as her confinement was ending and she could start laying eggs again ,O and i also gave her liquid multi vits like poly vi sol baby vits, but i still watched over her for several weeks making sure she was ok with going back laying eggs. so first thing get your hen into a dark room feed less a bit of scratch and bits of hard boiled egg with supplements in it then make sure she drinks water, i fed my hen tuna water to re hydrate her & she loved it, so supplements to re build your hen , i also gave my hen omega 3,6,9 fish oil, i take & squeezed it out of the oil pills that i take ,this below is the name of great calcium supplement , i feel this alone could cure your hen see below, but i would take the time to do it right or your hen could prolapse over and over and each time would make her even worse & it might never end.!

Thank you! That is a lot of info! I️ will do everything I️ can to help her. I️ don’t think she would have made it if I didn’t catch her in time, i fact I know she wouldn’t have, so I’m jut glad at least I️ caught her in time, but I still can’t get the poop off that’s all over her vent. I️ feel like maybe It went back in the wrong way or something. I’m going to try your suggestions, thanks!!

o yes , sorry i was rushing because i was tired,and passing out on my pc key board ...lol... but i would give her the full Constance of one capsule of the calcium supplement each day for 2 days then 1/2 a capsule every other day for 8 days, the other liquid multi vits give one dropper per day for 2 days then 1/2 dropper every day for the same 8 days and the fish oil squeese out all the oil from one fish oil gel cap on the first day, then the same amount every other day , for the same 8 days do that with the vit c & vit e . one full dose to start with then every other day for 8 days , your not over dosing but still your giving a hi dose to get a jump on whats happening with your hen , i would make her a large soft boiled egg with a 1/4 slice of bread mixed in it then mix in all the vits oil and pray she eates it all , if she didnt eat it all ,just take it away and save it for later , but dont forget the canned tuna water in a cup so she can drink it to help her re hydrate, i would hold the cup of tuna fish water for her so she wont spill any of it by mistake . keep offering it to her all day plus give her all the fresh water she wants but dont feed any thing else except for the egg mix food you can give her bits like a big pinch of the tuna fish in her egg meal , mix in a few pinched of the tuna fish in her egg meal , so no worries just do your best and dont worry please contact me any time but this process saved my big red girl who lays jumbo eggs and she has not had any prolapses ever again and she is going on 4 years old , o and about the poop still stick to her , used warm water soaked into doubled up paper towels & keep that up against her bottom to get it to loosen up and come off .

I have an update -

I went and bought some of the vitamins that you suggested and I’ve been soaking her everyday. I’m actually on vacation right now but a family member has been taking care of her and she has told me that she has been giving the vitamins and by now she looks like she has fully recovered! I’m very surprised that she’s healing so fast! She said that the poor girl has been sad being all cooped up in a small box for so long, so she let her stay outside for a little bit and she’s keeping an eye on her. She said that she is so thrilled to get out and run around with her flock. I’m hoping it’s not too early to let her outside.. but so far so good and she seems very happy and healthy at this point! Super happy! So that’s whats going on with her at the moment and I’m hoping she won’t have any further problems! Thank you all for the much needed help! It really has helped her (and me) a lot!
