Chicken with swollen eye

This conversation has been so helpful. How is your chickens eye now? We are experiencing the same thing. A really helpful man at tractor supply thought the eye might just be injured and to put Neosporin in it but it hasn’t helped. It has seemed to get worse. Now she started limping. I’m worried she might have fallen off the roosting bar or injured her leg maybe because she can’t see well. She is so sweet and I hate this to be happening! My husband is on his way to the store now for some saline flush. We also have teramycin if you think that would help.

Oh no. Limping along with eye blindness is a sign of Marek's disease. Can you please get a clear picture of your bird's eye and a short video of it trying to walk and upload it to YouTube?

The swelling here is most likely a build up of pus that needs to come out.
I am going to tag you in another thread right now that shows pictures on how to remove eye pus so keep an eye on your alerts.

I’m sorry to hear about your girl, it’s so frustrating when they’re hurt or sick. My little lady must’ve had an injured eye, because she slowly started to keep it open again longer over about 3 days. It never got worse, and we only flushed it and applied ointment a couple of times, so hers had to be injured. I did by Tylan just in case, but never had to use it. A chicken first aid kit on hand definitely helps ease the mind! I am really new to chickens, so I can’t say very well what you should do here, but maybe someone following this thread can

@Accidentalhomesteader do you have a thread about your pullet? I don't see one.
Photos of all of her would be good including her feet, how she stands.
What does the swelling around her eye feel like? If you open the eye, is it intact, is there pus, bubbles?
Looks like she has some dirt or mucous around her nostrils, have you noticed a discharge, coughing, sneezing, etc.?

Look inside her beak too for any mucous, lesions, etc.

I'd flush the eye with saline, press out the pus and then put the Terramycin in the eye.
Clean her nostrils and see that she's eating/drinking well. Is the other eye clear and looking good?

Could be respiratory illness like Mycoplasma, but it would be hard to know. Testing can be done through your state lab or an independent lab.
You can try giving an antibiotic like Tylan/Tylosin to see if her symptoms improve, but it would not make pus in the eye dry up, that has to be physically removed.

It started with her acting totally fine and just her having a eye issue. Now it has become much more and her poor leg being hurt makes me thing it was an injury due to her not being able to see 100%. Of course I do not know for sure at all but that is what I am guessing.

It's really up to @alinas2010 whether you need to start a new thread or not. If she doesn't mind sharing her thread with you, it's fine by me.

If you were to open the eye and press on the swelling, does anything come out of it at all? Any yellow cheesy looking material or watery white filmy material?
Anything stuck in the corner like a seedpod or piece of debris?
Just brainstorming her. Most swellings like this is due to pus from respiratory illlness, but there's other things that can cause them too.
I'd get the eye flushed and put the Terramycin in there.
I know she may fight you when you try to get the eye open and examine it, but if you can, you may be able to tell more about what's going on. Swaddle her in a towel to capture her wings and lay her on her side, you'll have more control of her. If you have a helper, that's even better. If you have too, take a piece of soft cloth and tie her legs together so she can't kick. Sounds harsh I know, but she'll settle and she will forgive you, give her a little treat when it's all done.
