Is it bad to give a chicken chicken?

It doesn't happen often but I cannot resist sometimes when he gives me this dinosaur stare... -____-

To start with I wouldn't do it but I have since gotten over it, they get all the other meat scraps and they can't tell the difference. They love the protein and I actually feel better about giving it to them than just throwing it in the trash.

I feel the same way and all meat and fish scraps go to the chickens, who absolutely love it all. I figure they will cannabalise another chicken if they get the chance, so it is hardly "Unnatural".

We have an elderly cat who now needs to be tempted to eat, with a variety of meat and fish, rather than catfood, to keep his protein levels up. Whatever he rejects at least goes to the chickens, whatever it is, and we get the eggs in return. I also have bought a cheaper layer mash with 15% protein rather than the higher rates people recommend for excellent laying, as they are getting extra protein at no extra cost anyway.

Waste just goes into landfill otherwise! I know some people find it "icky" but I just feel pragmatic about it.

I think it's perfectly fine chickens are omnivores and I doubt they can tell the difference. although I do tend to stay away from feeding it to them until they get fully mature. lol I suppose it's from my mother always telling me they'll eat me if I feed them meat while they're young

You got some good answers ...... of course it's ok to feed them scrapes but not with a dose of SALT on it as it will kill a chicken !!!
You can feed even milk and it's better if clabbered (what that word means i don't know exactly except that it entails leaving milk out over night .

I haven't fed my chicks meat yet, so far just veggies with the occasional fruit. I do give them scrambled eggs, they love that!

I strongly disagree with this statement. Chickens need some salt, but what they need will be in their food. You should try and avoid giving them a lot of table scrapes with added salt but it's not going to kill them unless you are obviously giving way too much.

Whenever we have fried chicken or chicken bones, we give those to the chickens. The organs of butchered chickens are also fed to them.
