So I'm not sure why but recently my chicken have been acting different. For reference I have a roo and a hen who have been together for a year and have been fine, they have 5 chicks together that are over a month old. I first noticed that my roo was mating the hen more and he recently started attacking me, not badly but as if he was trying to chase me away witch usually he'll run away from me. My hen is usually calmer but I noticed she was kind of running away from me, not fast but still trying to avoid me. Recently though she suddenly started attacking her chicks? I have no idea why, she hasn't hurt them yet but she will chase and peck them aggressively and they started hiding in the coop. I tried pinning the roo down last time he attacked me and he hasn't done it again yet so far, and I tried pinning the hen gently when she went after a baby but It didn't do anything except make her run from me now. I also tried separating her for a few hours and that did nothing. Usually my chickens are pretty chill and just want food and treats from me. I have no idea why the sudden change in my chickens and I was hoping someone could offer some advice or ideas about whats happening with them.

The hen is weaning the chicks. Don't punish her for it, she's doing exactly what she's supposed to do.

The roo is probably breeding her more because now that she's weaning the chicks she's more receptive to his advances and ready to lay again (if she hasn't already) or possibly even start another clutch.

Have you done any fast movements? Try to be calm around them. Chickens tend to remember what you’ve done to them. Have you chased them or tramutized them? Most chickens are aggressive/scared of their humans because they don’t know what your going to do to them. Their really smart birds. Something you could do to get them to calm down is be around them a lot so they get used to your presence. Treats are good too! Don’t do any fast movements either and definitely don’t chase them. Hope this helps
