Chickens and DUcks

I have a dozen Indian Runners that go in the coop every night now with my 40 hens and 5 roosters. I have had 0 problems other then worrying about my ducks crossing roads. At first I also had to round them up every night and herd them towards the coop after dark. I had one picked off by a coyote at night when I got home late. But other then that - they all free range and go in the coop by themselves now at night. The ducks seem to like their own space and my Indian Runners are definitely spooky. But, then again I have never handled them.. I will say though that all my neighbors and people 20 miles away know us by our ducks running around and never mention the 40+ chickens hardly at all. Seems the ducks make more of an impression......

Humm, wandering could be an issue.

How long did it take to teach them?

On one side of our property a river stops my chickens getting out. I just don't think that is going to work with ducks! I guess they will get to know the horses opposite! The other side is a fence before a lake. I think they will need a lot of handling & lots of hearding! When I feed my chicks & chickens I call them so they associate the sound with food so come running - I hope the ducks are as easy to train!
