Chickens and fleas?

Then you've got a ton of yard fleas and they're just coming in the coop to say hello. No kidding everytime you walk new really hungry fleas pop like popcorn. Those dogs must have loaded your yard up!
I dont have litter the floor of coop is cement but they dont stay in there other than roosting or when I'm in it every other day cleaning it out. It is 11'x13'. Not sure how big run is as I just put it up 2 days ago after dealing with several hawks while they were free ranging. The coop and run is about 30 yards from the house and hoping with the hiding places and protection hawks shouldnt be an issue and at least this way if they do get hit, it's close enough for me do 3 S,s.

Only one of the older ones jumps from roost, strangely sometimes. The others either use ramp or climb onto my hand to be let down the roost bar for nest boxes is about 2.5' to 3' off ground. They seem to have no problem with jumping up or down off of it.

Yes last night I was In coop area and out in front of it and i had 15 fleas on my ankles. Our new dog gets a bath once a week, has advantage and a flea collar on. Lol its nuts. I guess it will survive till first frost in a couple weeks and then ill spread flea killer all over the yard and around exterior of coop and pen.

Fleas don't just come from dogs... I live where wildlife and their parasites abound.

Frontline worked MUCH better for my dogs than advantage (which actually cause a reaction in one of them).

Weekly bathing can strip oils from the skin... plus I wonder if it's diminishing the effectiveness of the advantage?

I use the permethrin on the dogs to combat mosquitoes, the original purpose for purchasing... but have zero ticks or fleas. I know not all environments are created equal... but I would be surprised if it didn't help you get a SERIOUS control over your property.... I bought a more concentrated version... even at the same concentration though... it is a TERMITICIDE... used by professionals and not for sale to us standard dummies who can't measure and mix... according to our wonderful California politicians. :duc I live on the Oregon... where I was legally able to buy the MORE (36.8% I think) concentrated version for about half the price... and mix down to a safe level.... without paying sales tax. Were I able to buy it at home, I would have also paid the tax on it! :tongue

Everything I'm seeing about this says for termites, but if it will work for fleas I'll get some. Does it need to be a certain brand or concentrate level?

Look for this....it has permethrin and is easy to use for spraying the yard.

It is multi purpose and labeled as such... if you buy a certain product. This one lasted me two years. But I use ONLY as needed... and have never really faced much issue with fleas. But by that I mean they aren't that prevalent on my property. I originally bought it for mosquitoes but ended up using it to treat lice and mites. (It won't treat scaly leg mite or depluming mites.)

Yes getting the concentration correct is important, buying more concentrated means you need to dilute it. Directions are usually on the label for dilution. And I make sure that permethrin is the only active ingredient. Brand does not matter. I bought permethrin SFR and it doesn't smell nearly as nice as the horse fly spray which has pleasant scent added in. I paid $25 for this bottle that will last forever...

In prefer a trigger spray for the birds as the garden sprayer is just too liberal. But I got to use the garden sprayer at my son's house that does have termites.

Termites... one of the nastiest pest a homeowner faces! It WORKS on fleas. :thumbsup

Over use ... has caused resistance in some areas for certain pests... I operate under the notion I have never used it before so I expect it to work. And I don't use when not needed... and it DOES work... BE SURE to treat again in the specified period of time for the pest you are treating... while it does have residual and is water resistant once dry, the effect can and will be broken down by different environmental factors at different rates. If you cannot retreat within the correct time frame, say ya got vacation or whatever... I would say wait until you can commit to follow through real close to the suggested time frame. Interrupting the life cycle is key. :)
