Chickens and music

Chickens don't seem to appreciate it much. But then, neither did my church choir teacher back when I was ten.

Funny, dat! When I really get into a song, if there's a certain man standing behind me, he'll tap me on the shoulder, and say, "PUHLEEZE!!! Don't sing so loud!" I used to sing to my kids as a form of discipline.

I do believe music is a powerful influence on all species. Dairy farmers use it in their barns. I'm guessing there are studies that state milk production increases. Why not the same for egg production?

MY ducks would sit down and stop peeping when they were babies when hubs played guitar (acoustic soothing type stuff) it was precious!

I'm mulling this over because on the weekends I work in my shop and play classical music or jazz. On the weekdays I'm at work and don't get to the shop much except to get something or set something down. But I'm halfway thinking that the chickens are more active and 'chipper' on the weekends but it could be because there's more activity going on around them. Or maybe they like Vivaldi.

Scarlatti, Bach, Sousa, Beethoven, Mozart, Bernstein, Tchaikovsky, Duke Ellington, Bacharach, Woody Guthrie, Gershwin...as long as it's relatively soothing and rhythmic, then I'm OK with it. Puccini gets a bit intense and so does Mozart.

He has some sweeping dramatic piano going on, doesn't he? I really am drawn by the larger strings and the horns. I'm from New Orleans and my ear is most sympathetic towards the deeper, earthy sounds. As best as I can explain it, anyway. I will have to think about favorites, maybe Angelo Badalamenti?
