My brother wants a pot belly pigs and thinks it's fine to have it live with the chickens-7 hens 1 roo. The pigs he will get is about 4 months old. Will this work? I've heard of pigs EATING chickens..don't want this to happen!

What do you think? If anyone does this, please post some pictures! Thanks

How they will get along depends on several things. Will they be penned together? How big of an area? How many chickens in that area? Do you know if the piglet has been around chickens? Will the chicken feed be able to be kept up where the pig can't reach it?
I have pots in the barn with my chickens and the only problem I have had was keeping them out of each others food. I have given up keeping the chickens out of the pigs feed but it doesn't seem to hurt them at all. I feed pot bellied pig pellets.
My pots have free run of the barn with a walled in open door pen for them to sleep in and most days one of the barn doors is left open for them to come and go. There are usually a couple of chickens (hens) that nap in the pen with them during the day. My pigs have never bothered the chickens, in fact once in a while I'll see a chicken riding on one of the pigs backs.

But they all have plenty of room.
The more crowded animals are, the more likely you are to have fighting and health issues.

A friend of mine has a pot belly pig that has killed a duck or two, and a chicken here or there. Plus keeping each other out of the food is a problem. I wouldn't worry about the chicken in the pig food, but the pig will eat all the chicken food and not think twice about it. I was so happy when my friend finally got her pig penned up.

I wouldn't recommend housing them together. Pigs can be aggressive over food or just play too rough. My potbelly has his own pen or is turned loose in the pasture with all the other critters, including ducks, chickens etc. He was raised up with them and has never bothered them or their chicks. Chickens and geese often go into his pen and sleep beside him and even take rides on his back or head, which he seems to enjoy..... but the chickens etc.. can get out if they feel threatened............... Plus he will eat the eggs they lay for him in there, LOl....

I trust my pigs with my chickens... mine have never shown any interest in my birds..except to eat all the chicken feed.

but i wouldnt house them together...
the pigs need a clean place to sleep..and coop floors are dirty.
Every pig is different..you have to watch yours closely around the birds, until you know your pig well...some will eat the birds...

I have 4 pot bellied pigs that share a coop, run and yard with 20 chickens and 2 ducks. I hang the chickens feed in the run over a table so the pigs can not get into it. The chickens just jump up on the table to get to their food. I feed the ducks in the run on the floor twice a day. The pigs eat their pellets twice a day in the yard. Some of the pigs sleep in the run and some sleep in a enclosed part of the coop. The pigs will eat all the chicken eggs if they can get to them. I have my nest boxes fenced off so the pigs can not get to them, the chickens just jump over the fence. It works great. The pigs and ducks share the pools with the during the summers. No problems at all with everybody getting along. Good Luck.

I would worry about the chickens pecking pig in eye and pig stepping on chickens and eating their food, etc. My chickens and pig free range on our 20 acres but are never penned together.

How do you kee

How do you keep the pig out of the chicken feed? That is my main problem.
