chickens and water hose

I have a tap in the run and when I turn it on to fill the water containers all the hen come running. They like the puddle under the tap and will paddle and scratch about in it until its dried up. If its really hot they also like a fine spray over them from the hose when I am watering the grass.

But I noticed its only the hens that like it. All my roosters never paddle in the puddle!

On really hot days, I water down the sand in the run to get evaporation going to cool the air down. The hens all run from the spray, but my rooster Penrod enjoys being sprinkled and cooled off. He just stands there while I squirt him.

I have been watching my girls in the yard recently with the water.... hilarious. My girls run TOWARD ME when I get the hose out to water the garden. They run into the water stream... they splash around and I think when the puddle shows up they get more excited because of the possibility of worms or grubs!

I've actually had some "issues" with a noisy BSL and the one thing that makes her quiet down.... yup... hose.
