Chickens are digging in the landscapes...

My hens have destroyed my back yard. I'm a huge out doors woman. I built them an area they can do whatever they want. My only problem is I'm afraid they will fly over the fence now to go back to the yard they loved so much.

I am going to cover my run with wildlife netting. It will be 20 x 20

Wildlife netting is really for covering plants I got it at Lowes in a 7 x 100 ft roll, it will keep out the birds and deter avian predators.

you only clip the flight feathers and it doesn't hurt them- have to redo it after molt

I'm wondering about "perma mulch" - that rubberized stuff. Is that a good way to deter them from digging in the beds or will they just eat it??? (I ask that seriously, because my chickens eat those fake terracotta flower pots)
