My 7 month old Barred Holland chickens haven't layed any eggs yet. We're feeding them an egg laying feed mix. Is there something else we should be feeding them? Could there be another problem? Thank you for any help you can give us.

The shorten days that we are having now can cause problems. The birds need so many hours of daylight each day to lay eggs. That is why the chicken house use lights. In nature, this is when birds take a little holiday from laying and molt. Your youngsters are just maturing at the wrong time of year...

Susan, since days are getting shorter you might want to add a light inside the coop. A timer can be attached to the light to make up the difference. Chickens require about 16 hours of day light for maximum egg production. You can set the timer to come on about 3 a.m. or there about depending on what area of the US you live in to make up the difference.
