I'm assuming that proper hand washing, cleaning of cooking surfaces, and properly cooking your meals pretty much negates most of the risks. Since chicken is a fairly common food cooked in the home I would assume that UTI's caused by e.coli in chicken would be more common. Not sure what the BFD is.

It greatly saddens me to hear people propose that NOTHING new should come out because the poor dumb masses (or dumbasses, your choice) will get it all confused and jumbled in their tiny little minds. Honestly, must we dumb down EVERYTHING to the lowest common denominator? Or worse yet, stifle anything new because it might confuse someone?

You misunderstood what I was saying, obviously. No one said actual news should be stifled, certainly not I. I said that there is a certain element of our population, and they do exist, whether you'd like to think so or not, that cannot understand an intelligently written article (not that I am saying it was, necessarily) and will reinterpret it based on partial information and their lack of reading comprehension, coupled with lack of common sense that seems to exist today.

Society is prone to panic, especially in view of health epidemic type news. Don't you remember the height of the bird flu scares? The bird flu deal was a prime example of it, neighbors reporting neighbors who kept legal flocks, based on nothing but fear. Happens all the time. I wish many folks could reason better, but they just don't. I said they would be confused and scared and I hate to see it happen again, is all I said. Please don't misquote/misinterpret me.

Oh yeah. The public and flu. I enjoyed the Swine Flu Epidemic (not enjoying that people got sick) because the stupid factor in the public decided that they would get swine flu if they ate pork. So pork wouldn't sell, there was an over-supply, and I filled my freezer with good quality, really really cheap pork.

I keep hoping that the annual flu bug will be swine flu again. Well, better that there be no flu, I'm really not wishing illness on people. But if there is a flu season, let it be swine flu.

Years ago, I decided that all mainstream media coverage of any scientific study is good for is to alert me to the existence of the study. If it seems interesting, I'll go chase down the actual study. The popular press almost always misinterprets, exaggerates, and generally screws up their coverage of science.

Clay Mudd, you sure got that right. The Press gets half the truth and fact and only half of what they report is correct and most often that is in theory.
