Thank you Kat. I should get her phone number. She lives in CT as well as myself. I know she offers advice on the phone with a fee of course. I seen some of her youtube videos. Thanks for reaching out. I appreciate it. 🐓❤️
I wish you the best..I’m rather new, but kind of a savant with information, I have a zillion books on chickens and their health, and I’ve been absorbing everything on the net for a couple years..this article is for a happier time, I’m just trying to distribute it for ppl’s info on how to influence yolk color, and give hens micronutrients that increase health and longevity..best of luck!

Well..the many color compounds like carotenes, lutein, zeaxanthin, astaxanthin, are also of some health benefits not just providing color to the yolk, but help the eyes, egg frequency, egg quality, anti cancer, longevity etc. Then there’s all the stuff like selenium, zinc, manganese, iodine (there are a zillion) that are needed in tiny amounts and you can find them is supplements like kelp, krill, brewers yeast, all sorts of stuff.

Well..I’m still researching. The story of methionine is interesting, it’s the only artificially produced amino acid supplement allowed to be included in organic poultry foods..it’s one of zillions of important things. I add apple cider vinegar and a probiotic and vitamin supplement to their (filtered, same as I drink) water because their run is covered, and I haven’t decided how I’m going to let them free range in the yard yet, I want to be sure they’re getting enough Vitamin D. I’ve started with Modesto organic stuff, their non corn, non soy crumble, then their organic non corn, non soy whole grain layer I’m starting to introduce. Then, I’m experimenting with supplementing for nutrition and yolk color w organic paprika, tomato powder, beet powder, turmeric, kelp, carrots, fresh dark greens, wild dandelion leaves, brewers yeast w garlic, pumpkin seed, brown flax seeds, black soldier fly larvae, all the fresh organic fruits and veges I can beg, borrow or grow, the list goes on. I mist their organic scratch just slightly (to stick the paprika or other powders, not enough to grow molds) and pile on some paprika and put it in that little green Poppy Pecker doodad so that even their scratch has something extra. I want to give them the best life possible..I’m still figuring it out..I’m disabled now, so, I kinda have the time to commit to my ladies..! Here are some random pics, I was just going to show you what the Modest whole grain looks like, but, chicken pics can’t be resisted! One of my Whiting True Blues I sort of call “Farrah” cause her sweeping hairstyle reminds me of 70-80’s hair..
edit..I’ve been rethinking turmeric as an every day supplement, because in larger quantities it is a blood thinner..
