You know how dogs learn to recognize the sound of their owner's car? My chickens do, too.
When I drive up the driveway, my BR rooster Travis and his girls run at full gallop directly at my truck. They know I'll stop to avoid running over them. When I get out of the truck, they lead me over to the bin where I stash the scratch. I throw a couple of small handfulls on the ground and then I can park the truck.
If they're out foraging when I come up the driveway, they run around the house and line up across the back of the truck while I'm attempting to back into the parking space. Then Travis peeks around the truck and looks at me in the mirror. It's like, "Hey mom, you're not gonna run us over are ya?"
The funny thing is if my husband is driving the truck, they only do this if I'm also in the truck. If he's alone, they just walk away. They also avoid all other vehicles like the harbingers of chickie death they could be.
I'm not sure if I'm the one who's trained or if they are.
