Chickens eating egg

My chickens were eating one of their eggs yesterday. I've heard that they will keep eating them. Is that true and how can we combat this? We want to eat those eggs ourselves.

The one may have broken.. If they keep eating them I would start counter measures. Add a lot of golf balls to the nest an see if that fixes it.

I had that problem last year. Golf balls do work well. We also took several plastic easter eggs and (this is kinda gross) filled them with chicken poop. THey got 2 of them opened and never cracked another egg again!

I agree with the other posts. My birds have eaten broken or cracked eggs but have never bothered any of the other eggs. I do have golf balls in their nest boxes.
