Chickens eating eggs

In the last couple of days I too have found a broken egg in the coop, and it was obvious peck hole in it and most of the egg had been eaten.
Today same again, so I just ordered some roll-away nest boxes, trouble is they won't be delivered for about a week so I'll have to keep watch and hopefully catch whoever the culprit is.
It should be easy to find the egg eater, they should have yolk on their face . What worked best for me was upping their protien I had just gotten the egg eaters and they must have had a lack of protein I put them on a 20% and after 2 days for it to settle they haven't touched an egg since I collect every other day or so, and have even had a broody start hatching chicks :)

This morning I watched them on the nest, as soon as one dropped an egg I took it, well what raucous, she was not happy, she went off squawking, then I did with the other 3 when they laid and got the same response.
It was kind of funny but I wouldn't have done that normally but since the egg eating I wanted to stop it before it happened.
Can't wait for the roll-away boxes to arrive.

I confirmed I have an egg eater today too. Already placed marble eggs in two of the favorite nest boxes, I have 3 more so will put those out tomorrow. I just added 6 pullets to the egg laying flock, 2 Marans and 4 Delawares. The Marans are already laying and none of the Delaware pullets are yet. I suspect the non laying pullets cause I see them going in the nest boxes yet not laying. I'll try upping the protein in their diet before one taste a .22

Just out of interest, I have 2 Cuckoo Marans and their eggs are dark brown and fairly big.
When I first got them they laid medium sized eggs but after a year they have got a lot bigger, are your Marans laying large eggs?

On my previous posts I said I've ordered Roll-away nest boxes, hopefully to eliminate the egg eating, again this morning I watched a got the eggs as they laid them.
I did notice one hen lay and egg and the moment it dropped the one next to her scooped it under her, but I was there and pinched it lol.

Typical pullet eggs, smallish. The first layer of the two does have larger eggs than the other one. One of them has much darker eggs too.

Damn! Another broken egg this morning, problem though I couldn't find the shell, but the remains of an eaten eggs was in the nest box.
Can't wait for the roll-away boxes to arrive.

You were right, I was working in the yard when one of them came out of the coop with the broken egg in her mouth, she proceeded to eat the insides till I rushed to stop her.
There was another hen already on the nest and the suspected egg eater went back in so I shoos her away till the other one had laid and I collected her egg quick lol.

Need to check the protein and calcium levels in your feed...tho by now it might just be a habit.

Yes I think it is habit, the others lay OK plus her egg was fine regarding the shell texture, not soft I mean.
I give them a good varied diet plus make sure they have calcium as well.
