We don't have big cats in town here, thank heavens, but we do have Eagles and Hawks. This is what protects my flock. It is 40 lb test monofilament line that is strung from a 10 foot post in the center of the orchard . Lines radiate out from the center to 1 foot intervals on the 8 foot tall wood fence. We've had no problems, as one hawk must have boomeranged off it, and they all stay away.

These are some 100% English Buff Orpington chicks out for the first time at 3 and 4 weeks with their sire introducing himself!

Very pretty.

Oops, wrong pic. The big one is my LGD (inside to visit his little buddy). Although, Dizzy Debris, the MaltiPoo, THINKS he's the LGD.

Bear. My Anatolian/G. Pyrenees mix. Only 6 months old but coming right along. (Baby, the lab mix right next to him with her face out of the picture is one of my 3 rescues.)

Loving the opringtons. Wish I'd kept them and culled the Australorps. New to keeping both breeds and while I agonized over whether to keep the lovely, glossy black beauties or the wonderfully, glistening golden beauties, the Australorps kinda took care of the decision for me. The Orps were given a new home where the australorp brutes wouldn't pick on them. Now, I wish I made the opposite decision. If I ever get this house in TX sold and moved to NC, I may disperse the entire flock and start over with Orps.

Beautiful birds!!!! Lovely green range, as well...no barren, hard packed ground to be seen.
Thanks Bee!

I wish you could see what's in all that green.....Oats, kale,7 top turnips, wheat, rye grass, crimson clover, and white clover, all sowed over the centipede and Bermuda. My husband just laughs, and says I make him eat salad too !

The Orps have learned that it " rains " when they get in my daylilies though !

Danny, my mini Dachshund who dreams of one day being an LGD

Miss Lydia, There is a very old article from 20 years or so ago in a Florida newspaper about a true event involving a Dachsund.
The dog went missing out of the yard. A while later he came back smelling awful and all dirty. The next day the neighbor found a huge alligator, dead right behind the yards. It looked like he had swallowed the dog whole and the Dachsund clawed his way out and found his wayhome. Thats a very big dog in a little body.
