I have two Columbian Wyandottes that are also about 25 to 26 weeks old, and haven't started yet. They're bigger than our two 20 month olds, so I hope they get started soon...
With apologies to Bobby B, and his wonderful Supremes reference:

You can't hurry eggs
No, you'll just have to wait
They'll lay when they're ready
No matter how you fuss and pace

How long must I wait
For some eggs on my plate
The nest box is empty
Every time I check each day

Oh I can't stand to live my life this way
Waiting for my girls to reach the point of lay
Just when I'm thinking that maybe I should cull
I remember all the words of wisdom on this forum

I can just hear Beekissed say:
You can't hurry eggs....

(clearly had way too much time on my hands today)

It was SO nice here today, I took the little french fries out for their first look at the sun and earth. At first they were not thrilled, then instincts kicked in and they started scratching away and eating dirt like it was the best thing they ever tasted!! Look at those lil fluffy baby bums....

This will have to be the new song for Bulldogma's site....just gotta!

yes those fuzzy butts are so darling- pics like that always make me want to run out and buy some fertile eggs or chicks

, then I remember the nights laying awake cause they wouldn't stop peeping, the cages that were a mess 5 minutes after cleaning them (sometimes looking like a hurricane just swept through there), calling in sick to work because the chick was sick not me, trying not to constantly laugh at them when they were going through that gawky teenage stage and crows sounded more like someone was coughing up a hair ball, the stress of introducing juveniles to the flock and trying not to rush in when the pecking order is taking place....yea, I want to wait a long while to be a mommy again!

Haha, I only lost sleep the first night worrying whether they'd be warm enough outside or too warm because they were too scared to move out of the corner under the lamps. No chickens allowed in the house, no matter how small and cute, they went straight to the barn in a 4'x4' pen I made from 3 pallets stood up against a stall wall. I don't hear or smell them 100yds away at my house

I am interested to see how introducing them to the rest of the flock will go, but that's a couple months down the road I think and I may just let them start free ranging together....lots of room to get away from each other if needed.
I had a hen sitting in the next box nearly all day today, I wonder if hearing the peeps from across the barn is making her feel broody??
