Hi everyone! I wasn't able to get any chicks this past spring, as I normally would. :( However, it looks like I can still order some from Chickens for Backyards! :) Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they good chicks? Healthy? If one dies upon arrival, how are they with refunds/exchanges? We want to get one of the 25 chick specials later this month. Has anyone ordered them before? Thanks so much! :)

Where in WY are you? If you are close to Cheyenne, it would be worth the effort to drive down to Fort Collins and just pick up chicks there. NoCo feeder supply stocks a nice assortment of chicks year round. You can also select the breeds you want as you will want to stay with the more cold hardy breeds. I have bought my chicks from Privett in NM (same hatchery that FS uses). Takes one day to get them, might be 2 days for you if you aren't out in the sticks. I have been happy with the quality of the birds. They do require a minimum of 5 birds per breed or they also have a potluck hatchery choice for $2.40/bird (@25).

Ideal Poultry www.idealpoultry.com has a number of good deals for this week. You can get 25 Surprise pullets for $1.55 each or straight run at $1.05 each. They also have specials on some egg laying breeds, meat birds, and bantams. They are good at sending replacements or refunds.
