I don't get it...
I'm not opposed to pigs... but I was hoping to make use of what I already have, which is lots and lots of chickens.I guess pigs would be out as well? Someone pulled up while I was out clearing bramble and suggested I get pigs to do the work for me, because they're supposedly great at uprooting things.![]()
Part of the chicken yard was overgrown with poison oak and brambles when we first moved in, but I hired a brush removal service to clear it out, and so far the chickens have kept it clean. Occasionally I'll see a new poison oak sprout, but it sticks out like a sore thumb in a sea of dirt so I just hit it with roundup.

Of course, if I make the chicken yard bigger, then I will need to get more chickens to utilize the space. Funny how "more chickens" seems to be the solution to everything in life...One possibility: every time the chicken yard seems bare, add fencing to make it bigger. That way they could continue to keep the old area bare while starting to work on a new one. (This will not clear large areas fast, but might keep the "cleared" area actually clear while slowly expanding it.)
Only if you make the coop bigger tooOf course, if I make the chicken yard bigger, then I will need to get more chickens to utilize the space.
umm YES! Seriously though, I need to build a second coop. Right now they have to travel over 200 feet to get to the area I want them to work. And they have to walk barefoot, over thorny weeds, sometimes even in the rain.Only if you make the coop bigger too![]()
Uphill, through the snow, both ways? And they have to walk barefoot, over thorny weeds, sometimes even in the rain.
Just please don't let pigs escape.I guess pigs would be out as well? Someone pulled up while I was out clearing bramble and suggested I get pigs to do the work for me, because they're supposedly great at uprooting things.![]()
