Woo hoo, I double yolker! One of my Black Australorps laid doubles for a few months after starting to lay. Eventually she got her egg laying pipes in good order. Looks tasty!

And funny the Whitings True greens are the smaller birds of my flock laying so far! None of my 5 Black Australorps are laying yet. (I'll keep an eye out for anything fun to report:wee

I'm only guessing here but from my highest record for egg hauls in one day only 10 of the 24 pullets are laying so far, of course I emphasize "guess".

And yep very tasty! I can't believe the difference from store-bought, but I had hoped those rumors were true!

Australorps don't start laying until 24-28 weeks, they take longer to mature. But when they do start laying, they are consistent, you will get lots of eggs!

And yes there is a huge difference in store bought vs home grown eggs, it's amazing what a good diet and healthy atmosphere/lifestyle does to the eggs! Glad you are enjoying this experience! :)

I wondered if this was too big... but it held 54 new layer eggs (small to medium with the occasional huge egg!)

I'm not sold on it though, it doesn't automatically funnel the oldest egg to you, it holds a good bit so I'll keep it, but think I'll look for a better skelter so I don't have to manually move the older eggs down.

Wow! Regardless of whether or not it works, it's a pretty egg holder! :love
