Chickens in tomato gardens

Can chickens forage in a garden bed that had tomato plants in it? I know tomato plants are toxic to chickens, but I recently pulled the plants out and would like to put my ladies in there to clean it up before my next crops go in. There were tomato plants in there and the roots may still remain, is this okay for the chickens?

It should be fine. Mine regularly do a "pick your own" trip through my tomatoes.
