Actually, most serious breeders will only ship out birds that old... they rarely sell eggs and grow everything out til it's old enough to evaluate before selling since you never want to sell your best, you keep those for breeding forward... that's how you keep improving your birds... and all shipping of live birds has to go USPS and in special boxes, no other carriers allow live shipments...
Because of the cost of the birds, box and shipping a lot of people don't like to buy that way... but if you are serious about quality birds and want better than hatchery, you gotta be willing to pay for it...
We drove 6hrs one way to pick up the Calls and Ohiki because it would've cost more for the boxes and shipping for all them... and that was a lot to have her pack up, lol...

That makes sense. Just hadn't really thought of it. I guess I was thinking about hatchery day-old chicks....

My only excuse would be I was trying to make sure I didn't mix up their boxes, first with their eggs and then giving them the right tracking numbers... I feel awful now...

Eh, I'm sure they understand... honest mistake.

What carrier did they use? And do you think they were handled well for the trip? I don't see alot of people shipping/receiving birds that old, so I'm just curious.

Oh, and to add... they are handled really well in the bigger live shipping boxes than the hatchery chick boxes... these boxes are much bigger with tapered tops and handle so they have to be handled personally instead of by machine...
Our PO workers all had bets on our boy when he got there and wanted to see him so I pulled him out there... it showed that he was handled well, just had normal stress from being in a moving box for 2 days...

I deserve to be :smack ed... I messed up her tracking number... :/

No it happens. No smack needed. I'm sure she is happy she an track now. Lol!!!

It's fine. I'm sure she forgives you!!!! Hahahahaah!!!

'Tis OK--I should've pm'd you instead of saying anything in public... Though if it turns out my corrected number starts heading east, I'll pm ross and trade numbers:pbb

Those are worlds away from the "SLW" I once had from McMurray.  Beautiful birds!

Thanks Walnut!

Absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you, I'm as proud as a daddy right now.

They are absolutely gorgeous!!! Can't wait to see the chicks from those!! Easiest way to stagger is pick a day of the week to set and just set weeks eggs that day every time...it's a PITA, but worth it... :thumbsup

Great idea on the staggered hatch Ravyn. The shipping and birds were not cheap at all, but wow is the quality amazing. I would have spent thousands raising and culling birds to get to this quality.

You should be proud!! We're happy to share in your proudness!! :D
Those boxes look same as the one ours was sent in too, lol...
A week gives enough time for lockdown, hatch, stragglers and cleanup before next goes in... BYC910 sets weekly and I have sometimes too...

And you nailed it on the costs! Yes, they're pricey, but if you want quality you save more in the long run using the best you can first... :thumbsup

That's for making it public :D

We turned the corner. Tomorrow I will get the boys headed in the right direction, then I'm off until Wednesday :thumbsup
