Sorry to hear that. I'm glad you found the source instead of thinking that all BCM are hard to hatch and keep alive. And thank you for sharing.

It's been a learning experience for me, and after 3 hatched I am confident that the original flock is the source. 100% of the Davis eggs hatched. My only problem now is I know Tate is carrying some bad DNA... Like worse than just a big comb and halo...

Are you sure you didn't have multiple eggs from the same hen with the defect, instead of the roo?

But Tate fathered the new ones too, right? So I would think its in the mothers, since you are getting good babies from the newer mothers. I could be wrong, or just hopeful for beautiful Tate.

WV, they are so pretty!! Sc, I dumped all my quotes because I saw you took care of it. I have a reptile that gets impacted a lot and I put drops of olive oil on her nose, so she licks it off and then goes. That and lots of warm baths. At least now you know not to incubate those eggs. I'm sorry you had to lose a chick. Like wv said, keep an eye on that last one from those eggs. I've got another pip!! Looks like all the eggs that made it to lockdown from that horrible batch of eggs will hatch! I'm wondering now if that last batch from the same breeder, all died at lockdown because I moved them during the power outage? I didn't have any hope for these 3 eggs, so of course with low expectations, I'm happily surprised!

That is a very distinct possibility, because like WV said, Tate fathered them all. Tate will be replaced in that pen, anyway, but I would like to use him for OEs

And I forgot to say this in my quote. I let the chickens out to free range around 1 and guess who just showed up in my yard? That great blue herring that's been eating chicks over at my neighbors! I put everyone away immediately. Some of my pullets are still super small. Do you think he would go after one of them?
