The guy i called this AM had text me and asked me about BrEAKING a hens wing, so she wouldnt fly off! I immediatly responded that i absolutly Would Not break anyones wings but i would be more than happy to help him get off to a good start. Hes never had chickens but he breeds cooker spaniels, so he had an understanding of the puppy mill situations that alot of birds are placed in. It was then easy to push him in the right direction. Im saying, use your nice clean set-up as a tool... As well as how your bloodlines are better. Good people do respect how well the parent stock is. I think education about our food and where it comes from helps too. Like: If you posted how your girls will produce for years and years vs 2 years for those hybrids... I tend toward the more in depth ads on CL, i like how those sellers will put info on their flocks out, especially when its Correct info

You can definitely tell the good ads from the bad ones. I try not to overdo it, but I do want people to understand that my birds are different. The people that understand the most will drive the longest distances, but 75% of my sales come within a 30 mile radius.

So many people around here just want chickens that lay large eggs. The color of the eggs helps, but $15 is maxing it out for an 8 week old pullet. A lot of people sell Comets (sex links) for $10 and under. Once people see the farm and the setup, I get a lot of repeat business, but most of my advertising right now is on CL. The average person here would see a $10 easter egger and a $30 Paul Smith ameraucana and say "Flock that guy"

I love my comets. Sweetest chicks, and excellent layers. Healthy, hardy, beautiful and friendly! I bought the 2 day-olds (as turkey friends) for $2.75 each, I think, at the feed store, then bought 6 more that were 7-weeks for $5 each. I really love those girls. I might just hatch some mixes from them this spring, just to fill the bator when I do some LO's.

Just had a conversation with one of our artists. She wants duck eggs to carve. Blow out, bleach, and carve with a small dremel-like tool. I told her I'd give her some old ones, since she isn't going to eat them anyway, and I'd save her any dirty ones that I normally throw away, since she will bleach them. I can't wait to see what she does with them!
