Chickens Knocking Over Food and Water?

We put the food and water containers each on a landscape block, at about breast height. This keeps the chickens from walking on them, spilling or soiling. <G>
Another solution is to purchase (or make) pvc tube feeders and waterers. They can mount to the walls of the coop or the sides of the runs. hope this is helpful.

Put the water on a couple of cinder blocks or a couple of flagstones, if you use a pan you need a wide bottom pan, because they will perch on the rim. 20170614_164730.jpg I have a hanging feeder. 20160509_122326.jpg . GC

I like to see to it that my birds have more than one water source. Usually they are out free ranging, so they have water outside the run, as well as water in the run. Raise the waterer as suggested, or switch to a different style. What are you using for a waterer? Can you show a pic? Hanging feeders and waterers are great IMO, though if the waterer gets low on water, it's too easy for them to get it swinging. If it's a bell style, it will then drain, which can be a disaster in summer heat. If your birds are full grown, you can use a shallow bucket. But, beware of the bucket bail which can be a safety hazard, and make sure the bucket is not deep enough for the chicken to get stuck in and drown.

This is a timely thread as we are trying to solve a similar issue with our flock of 16 pullets. They are rambunctious teens and bull rush the feeder at times, knocking it over even when it is up on blocks. We are now trying a couple of hanging feeders like
GC-Raptor's placed about 6" off the ground, which solved the knock-over problem, but the girls still toss a lot of the crumbles out of the feeder creating quite a mess and waste. So I'm going to try making a "U" shaped pvc multi-hole feeder I saw on a pvc feeder thread from 2009. It looks like it should cut way down on the waste and allow several to feed at once. For water we are using a couple of heavy duty 1.5 gallon on-demand pet waterers up on patio blocks. No problems with spillage or tipping.

We have an indoor water (in the coop - the traditional sort of upside-down bucket one with the rim to drink from) and an outdoor one where the ladies free range, which is a long, deep tupperware. We just stick a brick in it and they can't tip it over.
