That's just normal pecking and is to be expected. It's part of the pecking order.
I don't use heat for my chickens at all. They don't need it, and it causes more problems than anything else. A lot of people have burned their coops down trying to provide heat their chickens don't need, and if the power were to go out and they were accustomed to the warmth and suddenly it was gone and the temperature dropped drastically, it can kill them.

) we only allow our chickens to go in the coop and run attached to the coop area. We also put tarps up on the run to keep out all the nasty wind. And make sure you have a way to keep the waterers unfrozen; we have out big, black, rubber dishes with plastic balls in them to keep the water moving and therefore not freeze.
And they also enjoy pulling at strings attached to fence posts. 
I use straw for my bedding so that will work! I have seen the swing before they look fun!
