Chickens not laying

That's just normal pecking and is to be expected. It's part of the pecking order.

I don't use heat for my chickens at all. They don't need it, and it causes more problems than anything else. A lot of people have burned their coops down trying to provide heat their chickens don't need, and if the power were to go out and they were accustomed to the warmth and suddenly it was gone and the temperature dropped drastically, it can kill them.

X2!
I have a question.  What do you do in the winter for your chickens?  This is going to be the first winter for me to have chickens.  What kind of heating do you use for them?

We just like to put down a thick layer of straw for our chickens! And when it gets super cold and snowy (Ohio winters  :tongue ) we only allow our chickens to go in the coop and run attached to the coop area. We also put tarps up on the run to keep out all the nasty wind. And make sure you have a way to keep the waterers unfrozen; we have out big, black, rubber dishes with plastic balls in them to keep the water moving and therefore not freeze.

A chicken swing is a good idea, ours seem to like the challenge of trying to stay on it. And they also enjoy pulling at strings attached to fence posts. :)
