My chickens still aren't laying should i start feeding them layer pellets?? What should I do?? They're all between 18/16 weeks old

Yes, start the 16% layer feed. Also give them extra calcium. (Oyster shells or crushed eggshells.)

What kind(s) of chickens do you have? At 16/18 weeks I wouldn't really use "still" in relation to them not laying just yet - even the fastest maturing/earliest laying breeds and crosses would just barely be at the point where laying might be expected to start.

Welcome to BYC!

Depending on what breeds you have, they may not lay until 24 or 28 weeks. Hold off on the layer feed until they start squatting for you, have very red combs and faces or you see that first egg. When you pick up the layer feed, get some oyster shell for them to eat on the side if they need it.

They should be laying pretty soon. I know how hard it is to wait!!

Hi,

I am a proud owner of 70 chickens. When my second batch of chickens reached 18 weeks, they didn't lay. Turns out, you can have late bloomers. Be patient. If you want some food to try to get them to lay, I would recommend oyster shells, or hard boiled eggs. But, do not give the chickens the egg whole, or they could start to cannibalize the eggs when they start to lay. Crush the hard boiled eggs.

Not laying at 18 weeks is not being a "late bloomer"
