Chickens not pets?!?!

My Buff Orp. Sweetie pie hops up on your lap, and you're not going to pet her.....?

My friends came to visit today, and one was a vegetarian. I let them hold and pet the chickens, even if I don't usually do that. I don't really view them as pets, but I don't deny someone else who wants to.

A friend of ours was looking at our chickens and said "I hate chickens." We were shocked. So my DH and I made a pact for when our girls start laying - If you bad mouth our chickens, you don't get eggs!

That is such a shame. As a grandmother I can tell you that my 4 year old grandson came running up to me and said "Gammma Look" and dropped a lizard in my lap and announce "Come hunt them wif me". Guess what? I was on my hands and knees hunting lizards with the boy. It is what a grandma does.

Good for you, Cetawin!! And great for your grandson! Like you said, that's how a grandma should be!!! Thanks you for doing such a great job!

I agree, all our animals belong to our family.

What a good grandma! I hope to be that kind of a grandma when I have grandkids. Meanwhile, I'll just feel sorry for my kids.

I agree. Great job Cetawin!

My mom is the one that my daughter prefers to be with. She has 2 cats and a dog. Feeds the wild turkeys, rabbits, gopher etc. A deer gets hit and she enlists the help of neighbors to drag it "out back" to leave for the coyote's etc to eat.
We had horses and llamas when i was younger. She took my x husbands iguana when we couldnt take her with us to NC.
When i call her husband tells her it is "News from the chicken coop" and hands her the phone. But they dont think I am nuts for getting the chickens. Or having 3 cats, a dog, two house rabbits and the horse.

To my mom it is "normal" to have a house and yard full of animals. I grew up with a house and yard full.. so will my daughter. It made me a good person and a good mom. Having the responsibility and love of caring for them all. And I think my kid will be and do the same.
