Chickens not pets?!?!

Hey, I'll chime in on this one!! Just got off the phone with mom and I was telling her how I'm going to go play with our new chicks after dinner and she said *get this- are you ready?*: Gross

She also thinks that chickens are "filthy" and shouldn't be kept as pets. Maybe alright to look at, but to pet them??

Just wait until she comes to visit in October (she lives in germany). I'm planning on getting a couple of eggs to hatch with my little brother who will also be here to visit.. As soon as she sees those little fuzz butts, she'll be hooked.

I had a friend who came over and was watching my chickens and out of the blue said, "Chickens are just nasty". I turned and said, "Well, I enjoy watching them and really like them" while looking at her dog and cat hair covered shirt. I would much rather have my chickens then have to wear my pets everywhere I go!

Don't get me wrong, I love my dog, but don't tell me my chickens are nasty when you are covered in dog and cat hair.

My best friend thinks my chickens are giving her the 'stink eye' when she comes over.

I told her they were just waiting to see if something edible mysteriously falls out of her hand, and then they would lose interest.
One time we were sitting in lawn chairs outside (I was forcing her to enjoy them), and my JG hen jumped on her lap. HOLY FLYING FEATHERS, BATMAN!!! After that, the hen really WAS giving her the 'stink eye'.

She's never had a hen literally snuggle up to your body just to be near you. One particular Barred Rock hen comes up on the deck to the back door once a day and waits for my DH to come out. He squats on his heels, she walks between his legs, lays her head on his stomach and closes her eyes while he strokes her head and back. Not pets? Puleeeze.

My chickens are pets and i tell that to people most look at me weird but who cares, I love them all the more. They are so fun to watch and they are relaxing. If people would just give them a chance they would be addicted to just like I am LOL.

I'm sure they are especially since they can tell when people don't like them...sorta like cats...

I had Obelisk on my shoulder and the neighbourhood kids were all out and a couple of the little girls looked like they wanted to pat her too so I crouched down and they said that they weren't ALLOWED to touch IT...

The parents don't know what the kids are missing...

It's not only cat hair, but there was a woman that Ernie worked with at Staples and she ALWAYS smelled like cat pee!

I really hate when people say derogatory things about chickens. Unless you've patted, held, fed or even watched them, then go tinkle up some twine.

What I don't get is where they got the idea, most have never been around live chickens.

So do they just out of the blue think their nasty or what?
I mean you dont call kids messy rooms a chicken coop you call em pig pens ect ect ect....

The only farm animal I have heard that was nasty was Goats well the bucks anyway.
