Honestly if you saw the coop my husband built and the work he's done for me around these guys, generally I would have said the same thing. This one situation just.. Floors me.

But I'm really happy for you that yours is awesome.

I'll definitely let everyone know.

I knew he'd put Mags in there, and I wasn't thrilled, but when I realized what he *hadn't* done I just.. *sigh* yeah.

And right now there isn't much that could make this worse. I'm going to be a mess until I get home tonight. *sigh*

Mine is, really, amazing, I'm just... this situation completely floors me. It's like he forgot who Maggie is this morning, and I understand he was in a hurry and doing the morning thing, but.. ?? Just wait until I post the pics of the coop tonight, it's ADORABLE and fantastic, and he's already got plans to do a second before the kids are full grown (it's 8x4 which is not big enough if we're going to end up with ~15 birds or so once we figure out who the girls are out of the chicks but until they're full grown it should be okay since they get to free range.).

all this assuming they're still alive when I get home.

GAH. Maybe I'll take an hours sick leave today and try to sneak out after my last meeting.

This story goes both ways, my DW swore that if you get chickens they are your(me and the kids) responsibility! Wanna guess who just came in after checking for eggs since she was feeding them(while they sat on her lap) Captain Crunch cereal, because they like that better than the Cherios. This is the same woman who had me go with her to make sure everything was OK since one of the roos decided to start crowing at midnight last night, I said they do that they sometimes crow at 2am when I'm on the way to work, but she insisted so out we go eveythng is fine. But this is from someone who wants nothing to do with "those birds."

Hopefully I'll have an update shortly, I got an IM from my husband, he feels *really* bad about what might have happened, and is running home to check on the kids. My afternoon meeting ended up being canceled (GAH) so I could have slipped out, but he left before I found out.

He's a good guy, just wasn't thinking really clearly this morning.

Aww... it sounds like he knows he did wrong! He probably just thought they'd be fine the way they were. I'm sure your husband is a great guy... anyone who agrees to chickens can't be too bad!

So a very bad feeling hubby ran home when it looked like I couldn't, and called me to let me listen to sixteen peeping lunatics.

The Collective is fine, he is going to rework things some so that we don't have to worry about this happening again (YEAH!). He's redeemed himself completely.

(He also said that the doors would be nearly impossible for Maggie to have opened without opposable thumbs to pull on the handles just right, so it was not apparently as dire as I thought).
