Chickens Proud of Their Eggs?

I love to see the hens in the nest right after they have laid their eggs...mine always cluck and cackle, talking up a storm for me.....telling me what they have done!!...

Just this morning, I was feeding mealworms to our girls and noticed that one was still in the coop. So I brought some mealworms in to her ("room service"!). She was in the nestbox and started gobbling the mealworms up, then she paused, looked distracted, and then I heard a thunk. Then she went right back to gobbling up the mealworms.

I couldn't believe she actually laid an egg right then and there. Her beak was too stuffed to cackle about it though.
