Chickens seem to be more dangerous than inmates!

Our jail butts up to the high school...but Martin County says no to chickens. Any ideas?

I'm into renegade chicken keeping, personally. If you survey the neighbours and everyone is ok you might be fine - it's been my experience that the city will only show up if someone calls them out... Don't try to keep a rooster though!
I'm in Canada but live in a suburban neighbourhood just outside of a major city. While I don't generally advocate breaking the law, some are simply nonsense IMHO.

I am trying to get things worked out first as a citizen of the county and then present a plan to the county so that the jail can use the chickens to cut food costs and also use the chickens as rehabilative therapy. I was thinking at first for their eggs.

I would suggest reaching out to other institutions that have programs similar - animal rehab (ie cat/dog programs such as the inmate cat program at Indiana State Prison inmate cat adoptions, the wild horse programs used out West, etc) and also those that have in-house programs to address food production and costs (ie Angola's farm system) to get some insight as to the various certification processes and legal hurdles/loopholes that had to be cleared/could be used. I believe Angola runs cattle as well - whether for internal consumption or an income venture with products going out, I am not clear - but this would be a great way to start preparing yourself and your arguments with details, statistics, etc showing the success enjoyed by other programs that can translate to success in your system as well...not only in costs savings, but also in the overall behavioral improvements seen when such programs are in place.
