Hi All,

I've had my flock of 4 Red Sex Links for almost 2 years now. During the winter, all but one of my ladies stopped laying eggs despite me having lights on 16 hours a day and all the regular things one tries when this happens. I figured maybe they were on strike for the winter or something. The strange thing is now I have another chicken who tries to lay but only ends up with the inners of the egg coming out without a shell. The other two still nothing coming although they do sit in the box like they want to lay.

Today, I sat outside while one of the hens was in the box to try to get first dibs in case they were eating it or something. She sat for a long while and then did her usual squacks so I quickly opened the door to find nothing...I'm completely perplexed!

Any ideas???

Maybe she is egg bound. Feel her side near her vent. If she is egg bound, you should be able to feel an egg. Apply olive oil, vegetable oil or if you have petroleum jelly (like Vaseline as this would work best) to her vent after giving her a warm bath. Hope this helps

Sorry, it's all my chickens that have stopped laying and it's been months now. The one that was laying over the winter hasn't laid an egg in weeks either. Definitely not egg bound......
