chickens stopped laying

We have 20 chickens they all of a sudden stopped laying a day before they stopped laying we bought a rooster. Would that be why they stopped laying???

How are they housed? In other words are they free ranged?

While a rooster may alter the pecking order, that should affect only one or two hens.
