Chickens winter fun inside

Off the topic, but I just went on the "My Coop" coolcanoechic, Wow ,, Your chickens are very lucky,, nice coop.. Great work... And thanks for the information..
I will have to see how to put my coop on here too... not sure yet how to do it.. thanks again.. for the info..

Hi, The main thing y'all want for this winter will be deep bedding for added warmth. This winter we will add several inches of straw to the hen house floors. We will stick with the deep bedding method turning it over and adding more as the months of winter progress. We will also feed fresh greens weekly as a supplement to their regular diet. Our flocks are use to getting lettuce, cabbage, kale, etc. Scratch grains will also be provided. Each morning a few handfuls will be tossed in the run area to give the girls that much needed warmth scratch grains can provide. It might be a good idea to keep the girls entertained if they are still allowed to dust bathe. Provide good nutritional food, warmth from scratch grains in moderation, a good ventilated coop which is draft free. plenty of fresh warm'ish water, as mush light as possible and I think the chickens will be happy.

Thanks! We put a lot of research, time, and endless hours of building into it. Actually, today, I am breaking ground for an additional 12 ft by 12 ft run. The weather is not cooperating right now as it is cool and drizzly. Oh well. The weekends are all I have to work on it. It's supposed to warm up later. I'll be digging and leveling the ground all morning. Fun fun fun!

So how did you get your coop on here, I don't see anything for it... How fun to make the coop even bigger.. We all seem to love our chickens... I can't wait to see them in the snow well around it...

Lets see. I'm trying to remember how I did this. I think you click on coops, then member page, then add a member page and go from there. I'm sure there are instructions here on the site somewhere. It's been a really long time since I made my page. Click around and see what you come up with.

You do have a WONDERFUL looking and designed coop! I just love it. Was just looking at your images. Your paint color choice is great too. Looks very woodsy! Have fun today working on the new run! I can't wait to see how that progresses. We're getting ready to start a new coop and run area ourselves very soon. It's going to be attached to a metal 12' x 18' foot storage building with a barn style roof so I'll probably go with that 'lean-to' style. It will house black copper marans. So, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nice!!!!!
Black copper marans? Three of my birds are BCM's.

Have you decided on a size for your project? If you stick with increments of eight feet, you will get more out of your wood. Plywood comes in sheets of 4 x 8 and standard 2 by 4's are 8 ft. You can get other lengths of 2 by 4's but they are usually costlier and harder to handle because of the length. Anything that comes in contact with the ground or near the ground should be pressure treated wood.

I used all wood stains for my coop and run. I like the look of natural wood.
