Chickens won't use roosts

Pics
One hen came out this morning with poop all over her neck. maybe that is why roosts have to all be the same height.
They don't have to be, but it does help eliminate pooping on other birds.
Tho some of mine insist on sleeping on the boards under the roosts.
Not a big deal unless it's juicy poops.

Why don't people use more vertical space in chicken coops?
Mostly for ease of handling birds.
Space up high is best for ventilation purposes.
They need some landing space, so roosts that are too high can end up in crashes when birds fly down, depending on floor 'landing' space.
My poop boards do act as additional 'floor' space when birds are inside during nasty winter storms.
