CHICKENSTOCK 2008

IF we were to do it in Kansas to be around the National Poultry Museum, here is some info I found on Bonner Springs (where the museum is located).

Address to National Poultry Museum:
630 Hall of Fame Drive
Bonner Springs, KS 66012
Phone: (913) 721-1075

Official website for Bonner Springs

Hotels in Bonner Springs (Expedia)

The Official Kansas Hotel Site

National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame

That's pretty much it for now. I was thinking another idea would be to book a hotel in Kansas City and then make the drive over to the museum.
Not sure how that would work out though. Just throwing out ideas.

Ok, I emailed the Ag Hall of Fame because it shares the same address and phone number with the National Poultry Museum, but makes no mention of it. I was afraid something had happened, or I don't know what but everything is good. Here's the email I got:

Hi Jessica!

Thanks for your interest in the National Poultry Museum. Yes, this is
the place. We have a large display of poultry equipment and artifacts
in a separate building right here on our premises and funding is in the
process for expanding it even more. Yes, the phone number here is the
correct number (913) 721-1075. I hope this helps. If we can answer
any other questions don't hesitate to let us know.

Awesome work Jessica. Looks like we got us a start! Ok, I think the next thing would be to start considering what types of things we want for this Chickenstock. What do you guys want to see at something like this? I know we'd want speakers on different subjects but what other things can you guys come up with that would be of interest to you. I figure if people are going to drive any distance for this, they ought to have a say on what they would want to see or hear.

It would be awesome if we could make this a big thing. Think of an expo, where different companies get together and show their products but all chicken/poultry related. Maybe we could get some companies involved....they could donate a product of theirs to do a raffle (it's a good way to get your product out there).....I'm just brainstorming. If we're going to be serious about this thing we've got to really start pulling stuff together now. There are TONS of people who keep pet chickens. Not just on this board either. Think of all of us, plus people in other groups, plus people who don't even know these groups exisit. I don't know if everyone's looking for just kind of a simple get together or something big, but if we're going to have to do some traveling, I'm thinking BIG!

Please submit your ideas!

Maybe contact McMurray and Ideal and some other hatcheries and see if they might set up a display or demonstration of some kind.
Speakers on different subjects such as genetics and maybe diseases and how to prevent or at least treat them. Something along those lines would interest me.
It would also be cool to tie it in to some big poultry show to where there would some chickens around to look at. Just some thoughts

Very interesting!!!

Yes, getting sponsorships is a great way to go. Sponsors can be used to help pay for:

Shirts
printouts
websites (hint)
and general funding used for the meeting house, etc.

They usually just require that their logo be on everything and there be mention of them other places. I think the Duck Rescue Network just had a big thing and that Dove (?) sponsored the shirts?

I'm thinking that some of the best bets for sponsors would be:

Hatcheries
Food suppliers
Equipment suppliers
etc.

Also, a great idea mentioned is to have it with or even AT an existing fair or show. A state fair would be a GREAT place to have something like this with a designated area just for BYCers. This could be a place for all of us to meet up AND draw in some newbies.

What's interesting: My brother got his first chickens at a county fair during our family reunion and that's how I got into chickens. Were it not for the chickens at that fair I wouldn't be here.
