Chickie'sMoma :

NH is free to test while this year is still under a grant! here they test for AI and PT and anything else i believe is an extra fee.

How do i contact them for the testing?

you can go to the NH Dept of Agriculture website and get the phone number from there, but to make it easier here you go!

Division of Animal Industry:
Telephone: (603) 271-2404

Stephen K. Crawford, State Veterinarian
email: [email protected]

just tell the secretary that you want to get NPIP tested. she will ask you how many birds your flock contains so they can have enough bands/tests/supplies with them. more than likely you will not get the actual state vet but one of his assistant testers that will come out to do the birds!

eta: someone will need to be there to help assist with handing birds to the vet. and he/she will want to get it done quickly so not too much fussing over the birds trying to catch them. having more than one extra person is usually good since one person can grab a bird and the other can put the tagged bird away and get the next one.

you paperwork should come to you within 1-2 weeks of being tested if you live close to Durham and UNH. i'm about 30 minutes away and the tester just drove by and dropped it off along her way back. i got the papers and my certificate in a week!

Thanks for the info. I found the website but wasn't sure where to go from there. I appreciate it!!!

Shay, i wish i was closer or i would come and get those 2 marans hens from you. are they feather footed or clean legs? either way they would make a great addition to my cuckoo fav project!

Hi Shay,

What Type and How old are the Marans?

Thanks Don

Shay originally got them from me. They're cuckoos from Ideal, clean legged I think, and they'll be 3 in the spring. They were good egg producers but I had to part with them to make room for my non-hatchery birds.

WHat exactly is this testing for? I am sort of a newbie, but I am all for making sure healthy chickens are sold, traded, gifted...including my own! We lost 3 chickens this year that we got at a swap and it was very difficult

so to avoid that in the future would be a bonus

I saw the number for MA, but what exactly are they doing it for? Does it matter if the chickens are vax'd or not? Our hens may or may not be...I never thought to ask the woman who we got them from as I wasn't going to but our roo and one hen we hatched are definitely not so...is it only if you are going to sell them? Or, if you plan on bringing any for show?
