you can also warm up the vet rx before you put it on them 9not sure if thats what you are doing) it helps release the oils and also mix a little bit with water in a spray bottle, mist teh coops with it and go right over teh birds with it and also put a few drops of vet rx in there waters, and put some warm vet rx under both wings at night of all teh birds, when they cuddle there heads under there wings to sleep they breath it in and should help too.

The bird that is now with them, i would honestly seperate her off by herself away from others, do not treat her unless you see her coeming down with something, if you treat her now and dont have anything then you are weakening her amune system and if she ever comes down with anything in teh furture the tylan may not work for her.

You dont ever want to treat birds with antibiotics unless you see they have something starting.
You can do teh vet rx on her now for precoution, thats all natural oils, i use it on my birds for shows.

Check for holes that she may have dug under to get into teh coop.

Thanx Shay! That is a great idea about putting it under the wings! Never would have thought of that. I will also be spraying the coop with it. I had thought of putting some on the light bulb so at night when I turn the light on it would release the vapors! LOL One thing I was wondering about was is this contagious to my dogs?? Oh please say NO...I cant afford to have them sick, I really mean that financially I cannot. So I hope it is not something they can catch, I dont care if I catch it because at least I have insurance...sounds stupid I know, but that is how I think sometimes! Wayne is all worried I am gonna catch it and die! LOL...I told him he would not mind that at all! haha

ETA: Oh ya, not to mention, I lost anothe hen to a predator yesterday and just now found some feathers, no body parts or blood, but paw prints leading to and away from the feathers. Wayne followed them to the neighbors yard and they went under his storage shed. He said it is a fox, so he is sitting out on the deck now waiting to shoot the thing if it comes out at dusk before the free range flock that is down to 3 birds now goes in for the night. I think I will set up that game cam now if I can understand the instructions about programing it.

Yes, it smells like camphorated oils. It has helped a lot. I rub a drop on the wattles, comb, beak and I have even put it in a hens eye for eye worm as Shay had told me and it worked! Now I am also going to put it under the wings as she suggested.

Oh Jackie, this has been the worst experience next to the predators I have had since having chickens. Wayne sat out on the deck all the later half of the day today just waiting for the fox to show his face. He had his new rifle ready and waiting.

OK, here is some info that a lot of you might find interesting. My frind Dave that has been raising show chickens for over 30 years wrote to me and this is what he said when I asked if he was seeing the problems we are all seeming to have with our birds eating like pigs and not gaining weight:

i havent seen any respiratory problems. i did recently have problems with one feed dealer in taunton who grinds their own feed. the salt content was way too high. i lost 6 birds from it including a large fowl game hen which are usally tough... as nails. they were drinking water like there was no tommorrow and losing weight like crazy. they acted like they were freezing cold. my birds have been out in way worse cold than weve had and none died. the poultry inspector came down to see and he was the one who suspected salt poisoning. so he took a sample of the feed and sent it to the lab and it was like 10 times too high. needless to say i wont be going there again. this all took place in less than a week. the dealer is trying to blame it on the weather or 'something'. it costs big$$ to have the birds tested and even if you sued them youd never get it all back. ill stick with tractor supply or nutrena from now on. we have a blueseal dealer down here but he was an jerk to rosemary over a bag of goat food, so i never go there. i doubt he'd let me now anyways!

I noticed that our ducks sit down on their feet when it is really cold. After i shoveled the snow out of their pen, i threw down some straw in one area, and they REALLY liked that! Of course they muck it all up, and the thaw we just had, made their whole pen mucky. I threw down more straw for them. Of course they have nice thick litter (shavings) in their house, but they much prefer being outside---they use the house for laying their eggs, and then come back outside. Their pen is really secure, so we don't lock them in the house at night. The only time they all chose to be inside the house was during the recent nor-easter.

Just think, ducks and geese are on the water and ice in ponds and lakes now, so I wouldnt worry too much about them. I get cold just seeing them like that though. Abby, I am still raging a war on this respiratory thing and as a matter of fact lost one of my little serama pullets this afternoon to it. But I think I may have aspirated her giving her the second tylad shot. It was hard to get any meat she had lost so much weight the last few days even though she was eating like a piggy! I gave her the shot and about 2 hours later she was gone. I feel so bad about it, but I had to do something to try and help her and may have ended up killing her. I hate myself when I think about it.

Don't beat yourself up about it Darlene. Usually by the time they're showing significant symptoms it's too late anyway. I don't think anything you did killed her.
