I am sad and angry! This morning I let everyone out of their coops, the free rangers were all accounted for. Well, as the day went on, I noticed that the week old chicks were laying in a corner tucked in against the house. it did not dawn on me till just a little while ago when I heard them peeping frantically calling for their mom that she was missing. I remember seeing her earlier in the morning, but I had the a/c on and did not hear any ruckus's. SO i started to look for her and then I noticed that my sebrite roo was also missing along woth one of the 10 week old chicks. What could have gotten them all during the day and left no evidence to be found?? Shay, did you ever find yur missing birds or bodies at least?? I then am also remembering that my crows have not been around for about 2 weeks and they had always kept the hawks away. Now I have to call to the crows again and start to feed them so they will play chicken guadian angels again. I am so upset becaus ewe had the roo for 3 years and he was so good at being the guard dog to the hens and also what about these chicks? Will the other hens adopt them? The chicks seem to be keeping to themselves.

I'm going to try to make this one as I do have some for sale

I'm in ME on vacation, and I forgot to bring their card. That means I won't be able to get in touch with them until next week probably. So for those who have expressed interest I will be in touch with you next week to see if we can arrange a date and location. The sooner the better.

And if there is anyone else in the MA/NH area who would like to have extra birds processed let me know.

Yes, it is sad. The rooster was so smart I am suprised something got him. He was out there free ranging with the girls for 3 years and the mother hen was such a good mom. Thre babies followed the others into the doghouse coop at dusk but seem to be on the outer circle of the remaining birds which consist of 2 adult hens, one of which just went broody the other day, 2 hens about 5 months old, and 3 chicks about 8 weeks old. I hope they will merge into the flock because it is pitiful to hear them peeping so loud for the mom.

Darbella-
I'm so sorry for your loss. I had this happen to me last month, too. We try to be good cartetakers, but hungry animals have reason to be more vigilant, I guess. I spoke with MA wildlife, and they said that although coyotes are nocturnal, they will watch a food source and change their preying habits to be able to get the food. I, too, thought it was a hawk that stole my "kids".
I guess that's why there's Wile E Coyote always chasing the Roadrunner during the day?
You can't trap them unless the trap is set up inside a fenced area, but you can shoot the predator if you catch him/her in the act while the hens are free ranging, and it does not have to be during hunting season. It only has to be during hunting season if you want to shoot the predator when it is not attacking.
My sympathy,
Sue

Same here the serama roo that i got, was smart he always stayed with the goats, never came nere any other bird at all, well i thought he was smart to sleep with the goats. you figured nothing would go nere the goats. which is still why i am on edge and still think i theft, becouse even my sizzle rooster is gone, and i lost 2 pullets together at once, i mean if a hawk i would asume it would grab only one and we would have seen at least the other one haning around by herself, but nope both gone at same time not a trace of any one around, my frizzle pullet too got out only once (the day of the stock ) i put her back in and next thing i know she is not around again.

god hubby really liked that sizzle rooster too, he said to me no matter what that bird stays, haha, he was a free ranger. next thing i realized yummmmm i have not seen the sizzle around.

Darlene i am so sorry this happen to you, it hurts when one goes missing, but then you find teh momma and a baby missing, that is even sadder.

Hey Shay And Darbella, Sorry About the Predators! That Stinks!

Is there anyone in the area that has some fertile bantam Hatching eggs? (Idc what they are as long as they are child friendly, which is pretty much everything) If anyone is in Taunton Whether its passing through or whatever im looking to buy some. A Friend of my dads wants me to hatch some bantam chicks for his daughter as a little family project, and NONE of mine are laying
lol.png
If anyone would be willing i will pay for the eggs and your gas :) I have ordered so many eggs this year, and usually get 50% hatch rates, id rather go local before i order, i dont want him to have to pay an arm and a leg when he buys these off me ! And with shipping it would be at least $20 Plus my Electricity to run the bator.
