OH Boy! I went out and reinforced the netting on top of the chickens pen. Man, that pen is big and I am tired! Tomorrow I will add another layer of netting to the top of the one that is in place now. I am also going to home depot to get some wood to make a "Porch roof" type thingy on the front of the coop above their entrance door so when it rains or snows they will be able to be out on dry ground. Then I can hear an aweful gurgling sound and realize it is one of my modern game roos. So I spent the morning giving them all a drop of tylan and VetRx on their combs, wattles and around their eyes. There were about 6 birds that were really congested once I finally got them and listened to each ones chest, and several have swollen eyes with the cleat bubbly discharge. There is NO smell or odor at all to them or their faces or coop. Droppings are normal, and appetites are great. I have lost several other pullets and hens to what I am assuming is the same respiratory thing (sinusitis is what doc brown said it is from my description to him).
I bought a powdered antibiotic he recommended for their water, giving tylan in their mouths and also doing the vet rx treatment. Question, should I give the tylan SQ behind their neck?? Or is the powdered one gonna do the same in the water if I get it and use that instead of the tylan 50 orally??

I found the tylan injectable works well in just a few days as well as the vetrx (plus I added a vicks humidifierWhat is the powder antibiotic because if its duramycin, tertracycline or sulmet it doesnt work.I know alot of people battleling this problem including myself and the Tylan was the only thing that worked )

Whats the name of the powder?

It is the Oxytetracycline (that is what he recommended) and it is 2 teaspoons to the gallon. Jackie, you are having this problem also? I wonder what the heck it is from?? Do my birds symptoms sound like yours? Shay, are you having any problems too??

Sounds exactly like a few of mine. They are in the house away from others but I also know of atleast 6 other people with the same problem. My vet said its spread by wild birds and theres not much you can do about it to stop the spread.Culling doesnt work because the source of infection is everywhere and just keeps visiting (the wild birds)

If any one is not doing anything all is welcome to come over my place and enjoy some turkey and fixings.

OK...nre dilema here...last night I went into the coop to close the access door the chickens come in. I notice one hen that does not belong in this coop, it is my oegb free range hen. The question is...how the heck did she get into that coop. I had reinforced that whole top netting with zipties the other day and spaced them about 4" apat along the perimiter of the pen. I have not a clu as to how she got in there, but this morning she is suawking up a storm because she doesnt want to be there as the low chicken on the totem pole, because she was alpha hen with the free rangers! I dont want to put her back out with them because now she came into contact with the birds I have just been battling the sinus/bronchial thing. Is that the right decision?? i know she will need to get herself established with the others now, and I dont see a problem with that, however, should I also give her a shot of the tylan before she starts to exhibit any symptoms??

By the way, I gave all the others a shot of tylan 50 in the breasmeat yesterday, rubbed down combs and wattles and around eyes with vet-rx and put eye drops into the eyes of the ones with swollen eye. This morning there is a noticable difference in the breatheing of them for the better. i think I may be on the right track with addressing this issue and thanks Shay and Jackie and anyone else that offered advise!! Tomorrow they will get their second shot.
